Just one of my projects (#amwriting)

Hello Everyone,

I wish you a very happy weekend for those who are off work and quiet shifts if you have to work.

This is the Proust-Questionaire which I have used on my phoenixrisesagain blog to advertise for other bloggers pages. But I have no answers left.

I hope though that many more want to answer it and bring their blogs, pages, ect to the attention of my readers. So if you have nothing else to do this weekend ~ here are the questions to copy and answer and to send to me:

Where do you want to live?
What is perfect bliss for you?
Which fault do you excuse the easiest?
What is the biggest disaster for you?
Your favourite characters in a novel?
 Your favourite figure in history?
Your favourite hero/heroine in real life?
 Your favourite painter?
 Your favourite author?
 Your favourite composer?
Which quality do you appreciate the most in a woman?
Which quality do you appreciate the most in a man?
 Your favourite virtue?
 Your favourite activity?
Who or what would you like to be?
 Your main characteristic?
What do you appreciate the most in your friends?
 Your biggest fault?
 Your dream of happiness?
 Your favourite colour?
 Your favourite flower?
 Your favourite bird?
 Your favourite poet?
What do you hate the most?
Which historical figure do you hate the most?
Which is your favourite reform?
Which natural talent would you like to have?
How do you want to die?
 Your current state of mind?
 Your motto?
Send me a DM to @Morgaine620 or email me if you are interested Morgaine620(at)yahoo.de

Thank you very much!

My amazing “blog-phenomenon” (#amwriting #blogging)

Well, this blog post was supposed to be a lot longer but unfortunately my laptop is still playing up and so I am back to the mobile with a lot less time.

I am blogging since about 3 years and never bothered a lot about how many readers I had. But then one of my blogs got more of them and I felt really good about it.

So I started to find out how I could improve my follower count. What works the best for me so far is contacting other blogs via comments, links and Twitter #hashtags.

But the most effective way seems to be my little “followerpower” project on “phoenixrisesagain” where I say “Thank you” to my followers with a mention and a link to their blogs. I increased my follower count by about 20 – 30 readers within 3 weeks and am still stunned!

Zara & Morsmart (#amwriting)

This year I have started two longterm projects. Well, Zara of course I have started much earlier but not in ernest. I wanted to write on that fantasy story every day but realised after a while that blogging is more important to me. So it balanced itself out that I write on the novel on my days off. The rest of the week I concentrate on blogging.

Originally I wanted to write Morsmart only every two weeks but it is such fun that I started it twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays. Every entry is about 600 words that’s no too much really. I use it to practise my writing of intersting scenes like integrating all senses and not describe but make some action.

What is it about?

Our Universe in a not too far future. Supermarkets have taken over society but the outlaws of Catchy do not approve. Rowan Enterprise has just started in Morsmart one of the biggest but will he achieve what he came for?

proofread and #editing (#amwriting #blogging)

Now that I am more into writing my thoughts go more and more towards proofreading and editing.

To be honest I feel like I have no idea what I am doing when I proofread and edit. Well, of course checking all the spelling and grammar as far as I am capable of as well as checking if it all makes sense. But what else do you have to have a look at?

For one I try to get my five senses in: Does the text not only see but also smell, feel, hear and taste? It makes a text so much more alive when you think about those and try to get some in. For me it is a learning curve. I have just started thinking about that even when I write so there is some improvement to be expected :-).

Also the famous: Do not explain – make it happen! Whenever we can we should write in active mode that the hero experiences something not that the author describes something to the reader. I find that really difficult. Especially when I need to write about feelings and how people express those. It needs a lot of attention to get that bit right. But it is also fun to re-read and change things into the active.

What else am I missing with editing? See if the tense is right.

If you write in past tense stay in past tense. I have no idea why I constantly jump tenses. Maybe it is just natural but it annoys me enormously that I have to spend so much time on checking these bits.

Well, have I missed an important point of proofreading and editing? I can not think about anything else but am sure there is more. Maybe you know and want to tell me :-)?

Writing spaces (#amwriting, #blogging)

This morning when I signed into WordPress.com my eye fell on the blog entry “Shop Talk: Freelance Workspaces Volume!” by Nathan Meunier who writes besides others for Nintendo Power and Playstation: The Official Magazine.

It made me think! (Oh yea I do that sometimes 😉 )

It made me think about my writing space. I actually do not have a special place where I write. What I need for good creativity is a cup of tea, a snack now and then and a window to look out of. That and the cup of tea seems to be the most important. From where I sit now I can see parts of our garden and the neighbour’s house and eucalyptus tree and a bit of sky. When I can’t get on then I just stare into space and let my mind run wild. Sooner or later I can get on. Well, getting up dancing around to get my body active again or to get another cup of tea helps as well :-).

I downloaded “A room of one’s own” by Virginia Woolf (one of my favourite authors) to my kindle which is about the fact that women need a space of their own to write (as any other author) but usually do not have one. Now I do not mind. I love to be in our family space preferable when everybody is out but it also works when they are here.

Am wondering if there are different sorts of writers or if there is a new one born as we get more and more free where we can write with laptops that can go everywhere and mobiles that are a little office of their own.

We can take our writing devices everywhere and therefore can write everywhere. I think that is a brilliant development!

Lately I wonder if there can be an addiction to writing?

Right now I have several projects going:

2 blogs under pseudonym

5 regular ones of my own

1 non-regular one

1 Science-fiction serial (blog form as well)

1 novel

several social networking sites

A lot to do when  you have a full-time job and try to  have a family and social life as well.

But it is fun ~ it is such fun 🙂

A possibility to publish your short story

I am not sure if I have been writing about Derek Haines’ Blog “The Vandal” before in this blog:

Derek Haines the author of the hilarious “February the Fifth” writes in his blog about writing, grammar, self-publishing and much more. His humorous (and sometimes sarcastic ~ sorry Derek 🙂 ) way of explaining things is enormously entertaining and a blog you should really visit.

He offers the possibility to publish your short story and I have found a few really interesting ones there. If you are interested just have a look at “Derek Haines – The Vandal – Short Story Submissions” to find out the details.
