……Alaana does not react. Zara has a look at the dog which is curled up around the girl.
….”I couldn’t see a lot but there seems to be something going on down in the village!” She let herself fall down beside Alaana and the dog. Alaana just stares to the floor. …..
….. who stares at the entrance of the cave. “Just stay here! I’ll have a look” Zara crawls to the entrance and then walks slowly with her head low down through the trees. At the end of the little forest she looks up the hills and down the valley. There is nothing up there but she can see flash and hear gunfire from below. She crawls back. …..
…. “when did I fall asleep?” She has a look around and realises it is early in the morning. “What is that noise?” Alaana has waken up as well. There are distant shouts and shoots. “Sounds like an attack somewhere” Alaana starts shivering…..
……. resting her back on the rock watching the girl and the dog.
Zara still stares as she realises how petrified the girl must have been with this experience. Alaana hugs the dog again. Carefully Zara reaches out for her. “That is a special skill you have!” “It wasn’t me!” The girl shouts taking her hand away. “It’s ok it’s ok!” Zara backs away a bit. “I wonder were she comes from and how they perceive our abilities there?” she thinks. “Uhm shall we call it a night?” Alaana just nods and lays down the dog protectively curling around her…..
….. it is really amazing how difficult it is to make a scene really alive and interesting. But you can work things over and with reading it more than once things become a lot clearer. I like this…..
…… where I come from.” Zara says while getting the bread out of her bag. Alaana looks astonished while grabbing a piece of it. “My people live high in the mountains and we know how to hide!” Zara takes a jar of honey from where the bread was and holds her hand out for Alaana’s bread. The girl gives it to her and Zara drops a dollop of honey on the bread. “Take care it’s dropping down” Alaana licks on all sides of the bread at once. “Why are you here? You left protection??” “Uhm my granny died and I should have done tasks I am not up for” “hmmmm”” Alaana seems to enjoy the bread. “And how did you end up here?” “I don’t really know!” Alaana starts shivering. “You don’t need to answer if you don’t want to!” “I really don’t know. All I can remember is that all these men came into my village. I hid in the cupboard but one of them found me he reached out and suddenly there was the dog leading me here! But it was not on real paths. We kind of travelled somewhere else” “She travelled instantly with a familiar?” Zara just stares at the girl……
….. while Zara strokes the girls hair:” I am sorry I didn’t mean to take your dog. But she just came to me and showed me the way!” “I know that is what she is doing!” The girl’s looks at her with red rimmed eyes. “What is she doing?” Zara sits back upright. “She is leading the way. She was in my dreams. She told me that she is my dog but I did not believe her until….” Again the girl curls up close to the dog.
“I am Zara by the way!” Zara smiles back and she feels good to smile again after such a long time. “My name is Alaana!” “Nice to meet you!” Zara just sits for a while and watches the girl and the dog. They seem one unit. Like the wise ones with their familiars. Zara hears a little gurgling noise. “Shall we make a fire and something to eat?” “Oh yes!” Alaana sits up and smiles shyly. “Oh no we can’t!” She hides behind the rock again. “Why not?!” Zara tries to reach out to her but the big dog gets up. “They are there!” “Oh dear” Zara thinks. “They are already here. I can’t believe it!” “Well we are in a cave and there are loads of trees around. They won’t see!” she says. “NO! They will know! The girl is adamant. “Well” Zara sighs “Then at least lets sit together and have some bread. I also have some butter and honey. Will that be enough?” The girls head turns up behind the dog and she nods enthusiastically. …..
